Transducer Tutorial
Picture in your mind setting in your boat and looking at your depth finder. It tells you that your in twenty feet of water and you can see what appears to be fish under your boat. Happy days!
Now just for a second I want you to think about an ice cream cone then turn it upside down. This would represent the beam that is sent out from your transducer toward the bottom of the lake.
Now understand that if the boat is in twenty feet of water then the circle on the bottom of the lake is about six feet across. So you can see the if you were in ten feet then the circle is only three feet across and at five feet only 18 inches.
Guess what ladies and gents a fish of fifteen inches must look like a whale on the screen if your in five feet of water. Personally I have never seen a whale on my screen in any depth.
What's my point? Unless your going to be fishing in water greater than twenty feet a twenty degree transducer is useless to a Bass Fisherman who spends his time in shallow water.
Now if you will, imagine a unit that uses a transducer with multiple beams that cover a wide area under and around the botttom of your boat....Are you beginning to get the picture?
