Buzz baits on the flats

Post spawn Bass

Learning to use Buzz baits, Pop R's and other chuggers, spitters and poppers at http://www.anglerskitnkaboodle.com/.

Its a Late spring day the water temperature is 75 degrees the spawn is over. The water is clear the grass is starting to grow beneath the surface. The outside temperature is about 80 degrees today and the sky is partly cloudy. The weather man is predicting rain in the forecast. So what do we do today? What would you do? Where would you go to start fishing?

As for myself I am going to go where the fish are. Its post spawn the Bass have pulled away from the beds and out into the main body of water. This doesn't necessarily mean the main lake.

If you happen to be in a large creek where the Bass were during the spawn then it could mean just outside of a cove. The Keyword here is FLAT! Your looking for water that isn't deeper than lets say six feet. I am looking for this shallow water to extend out into the water for fifty to sixty feet before dropping into deep water. Thus the term FLAT.

Last year My son and my two Grandsons found a spot similar to this, on a late spring cloudy day, and did we catch fish! It was a great day for us all. We really caught a lot of fish. We used Buzz baits and Pop R's and floating worms. There is nothing that wakes the senses more than a day catching fish using surface baits. When the Fish hits the lure you see it, you hear it, you feel it. Its hard on an old man's heart to see a critter hit your bait and try to pull you into the water with it. Ha! What great fun.

This technique will work for you no matter what body of water that you happen to be on. The key is low light conditions. There is something about a Buzz bait! I keep one tied on all the time just waiting for the sun to dart behind the clouds.

So if you really want to have a good time with the kids and make a fun day for them remember this technique. It also has won many Bass fishing tournaments for the Champions of the sport. Just ask one of them!
