Fall Fishing
Is there a better time to go fishing and catch the biggest "hog" that swims, in your favorite water, than the fall of the year? I don't think so!
In the fall after the lake turns over and returns to normal, the bass tend to bunch up in certain areas. They are extremely vulnerable at this time to the high tech gadgetry we all tend to throw at them. Just knowing where they are in the fall increases your opportunity of catching a fish of a lifetime!
Lets say that you were on the lake last week and the water temperature was reading eighty five degrees on your depth finder. You come back this week and it is reading seventy two degrees. What's the deal??
When the lake begins its turnover the water temperature is the tip off. This can happen virtually over night.
After the lake settles the Bass tend to migrate to the creeks. If you happen to be fishing a large impoundment then you would go to the largest creek. It makes sense that the largest creek would hold the largest number of fish. But what if your fishing a smaller impoundment and there is only one creek in that feeds the ecosystem. Wow, Now you have found heaven.
When you find an impoundment like this lets say five to seven hundred acres. It seems that every fish in the lake will go to the creek. What a bonanza! I like to go in the evening and take a hand full of Buzz baits. ( You have figured out that I like to throw Buzz baits, huh?) Know why? Because they catch fish and lots of them. Thats why.
Yes, its true that most Bass Master tournaments were won in the fall on crank baits. It is also true that more really big Bass were caught flipping and pitching a jig. The real truth is that it isn't the bait that you choose in the fall, its the location!
