Summer Peak

One of the best times of the year to catch Bass is during the hottest time of the summer. Referred to as Summer Peak.

When the grass has grown so thick on the surface that it looks like you can walk on it.
There are a few things that become really important this time of the year and that is your soft plastic lures, your surface baits and your depth finder.

Its 4 AM on an August morning and the dawn usually breaks around 5:30. Try to be on the water before then because at the crack of dawn or just before things really begin to happen. Something instinctively triggers a feeding mode for Bass this time of day. This is when you will need your surface baits. Buzz baits, poppers, chuggers, walking baits, all work well all morning up to about ten or eleven o clock.

.
When the sun starts to warm the day its time to call on your Eagle depth finder! This is where all that money that you spent on your discount marine electronics begins to pay off.
Motor out with your depth finder on and look to see if fish are beginning to suspend. Your looking for two things while your out here. First, the depth the fish are at and second, the thermocline depth.

I usually try to find four things. I have already mentioned two. The third thing I am looking for is a break line, or drop off at or just above the thermocline. The forth is structure on the drop off. Put these four things together and you have found a Bass magnet.

OK, now you have your spot to fish. You did drop a marker buoy right? Not to close I hope!
There are so many things to consider! It is absolutely essential that you have the proper equipment to use. Here you must have a heavy action worm rod! Nothing else will do! All of the rods that are sold at Anglers kit n Kaboodle are hand picked. Choose any one of them for any manufacturer you can't go wrong.

You can use either a spinning reel or a bait cast reel just make sure that the rod matches the reel you have chosen. ABU Garcia is a good choice for either Bait casting reels or spinning.

Weather you opt for a Zoom salt impregnated product or a Berkly Power worm. If your on a lake with a healthy population of Bass. You can set there and stick fish all day.

When the sun starts to drop a shadow on the bank again in the evening then go back to your early morning pattern. By the time you get ready to go home you will have had a great day. Guaranteed!
