HUMMINBIRD

Many fishermen that use depth finders really have no idea, many times, what they are looking at when they view their screens. Hopefully the information supplied here by HUMMINBIRD will help you understand your transducer and how it operates.

Single: sonar is optimized to give you a detailed view of fish, bottom and structure. The single beam doesn’t give you the wide coverage of a dual beam or our other multi-beam sonars, but you do get a great indication of what’s going on at the bottom, so you can find cover and structure where fish congregate.

DualBeam PLUS: sonar has a narrowly focused center beam, surrounded by a second beam of 60, expanding your coverage to an area equal to your depth – in 20 feet of water- the wider beam covers an area 20 feet wide. The first beam is focused on the bottom, to show you structure, weeds and cover. The second beam is hunting for fish in the wide coverage area. You can use the beam independently, yet working together; they give you a clearer picture of what’s going on underneath the boat.

Wide Side: does what its name implies: it uses three sonar beams, one narrow 24 beam looking downward and two beams looking 160 feet directly to the left or right to scan an incredibly wide area for fish. This is an outstanding choice for river fishing, along banks, docks etc. You get a great look at what’s there, without driving your boat into the shallows.

3D Plus: uses six separate beams to analyze the contour and shape of the bottom for an exceptional on-screen 3D display clearly depicting bottom structure and drop-offs. The six beams provide 53 of continuous coverage up to 240 feet deep. New 3D systems actually measure depth between the beams for a total of 11 discrete depths. With the outstanding look at the bottom, you can see things in one pass, such as creek bed, drop-offs and more, that normally would take three to four passes with traditional sonar to see.

Side Imaging: gives you a near picture-like view of the bottom and structure, so you can analyze an are like never before, and fish much more effectively and efficiently. Two very precise, extremely wide, but narrow front to rear sonar beams are directed to the sides to “illuminate” the bottom, fish and structure to give you thin slices for extreme resolution. The result is a picture-like image with unbelievable detail. The Side Imaging sonar works out to 240 feet per side, at depths up to 100 feet. The side beams are complemented by dual beam sonar for traditional down looking 2D views. Use Side Imaging sonar to quickly scan a huge area, note any structure or interesting topography, then head back to those spots for a look with your traditional 2D sonar. You can fish large areas more quickly and efficiently than ever.
