September, the tough month!

Bass are a fickle breed this time of the year. The water is starting to cool on the chilly nights. The lake begins it’s “Turnover”. As the water mixes the fish start to scatter. No longer held at bay by the Thermocline, they tend to use more of the lake, traveling to newer depths.
All of these things present a puzzle for the fisherman trying to find his quarry. So, what to do, what to do. When you see the fisherman out on the point casting crank baits as far out as he can cast them. Is he doing the right thing? Yes, absolutely! Usually you will find him on the ten to fifteen foot contours and moving from point to point. At the end of his day if things went well for him he will have a heavy stringer.
Other guys will move into a heavily wooded creeks and crank each and every tree. You would expect to find a fish or two by stopping a crank bait beside a standing tree. Sometimes you might just catch a limit beside the same tree. Sound impossible? Try it some time! Slither a worm at the base of the tree. That also is a good bet this time of the year.
For the guys that spend their time fishing the very backs of coves. Well, It can also be a bonanza. Worms, Buzz baits, Jitterbugs, jigs all work well here.
So remember not to get hung up during the month of September on one technique. Try these differing approaches and load the boat!
